An hybrid genetic algorithm for two-dimensional cutting problems using guillotine cuts

چکیده
The paper deals with the purpose of one hybrid approach for solving the constrained two-dimensional cutting (2DC) problem. We study this hybrid approach that combines the genetic algorithm and the Tabu search method. For this problem, we assume a packing of a whole number of rectangular pieces to cut, and that all cuts are of guillotine type in one sheet of a fixed width and an infinite height. Finally, we undertake an extensive experimental study with a large number of problem instances extracted from the literature by the Hopper’s Benchmarks in order to support and to proove our approach and to evaluate the performance.

Heuristics for Large Strip Packing Problems with Guillotine Patterns: an Empirical Study
We undertake an empirical study in which the performance of a good genetic algorithm is tested against some well-known bin packing heuristics on a range of two-dimensional bin packing problems. We restrict our study to problems involving guillotine patterns which are produced using a series of vertical and horizontal edge–to–edge cuts. Many applications of two-dimensional cutting and packing in...
متن کاملConstructive procedures to solve 2-Dimensional Bin Packing Problems with Irregular Pieces and Guillotine Cuts
This paper presents an approach for solving a new real problem in Cutting and Packing. At its core is an innovative mixed integer programme model that places irregular pieces and defines guillotine cuts. The two-dimensional irregular shape bin packing problem with guillotine constraints arises in the glass cutting industry, for example, the cutting of glass for conservatories. Almost all cuttin...
متن کاملComparison of Meta-heuristic Hybrid Approaches for Two Dimensional Non-guillotine Rectangular Cutting Problems
In this paper, six different approaches using genetic algorithms (GA) and/or simulated annealing (SA) with improved bottom left (I-BL) algorithm [1] were applied for solution of two dimensional non-guillotine cutting problems. As examples, test problems including 29 individual rectangular pieces were used [2]. Performances of hybrid approaches on solutions of cutting problems were compared. Due...
متن کاملConstruction heuristics for two-dimensional irregular shape bin packing with guillotine constraints
The paper examines a new problem in the irregular packing literature that has existed in industry for decades; two-dimensional irregular (convex) bin packing with guillotine constraints. Due to the cutting process of certain materials, cuts are restricted to extend from one edge of the stock-sheet to another, called guillotine cutting. This constraint is common place in glass cutting and is an ...
متن کاملA Genetic Algorithm for the Two-dimensional Single Large Object Placement Problem
The two-dimensional Single Large Object Placement Problem (SLOPP) problem consists of determining a cutting pattern of a set of n small rectangular piece types (little object) on a rectangular stock plate (large object) of length L and width W, as to maximize the sum of the profits of the pieces to be cut. Each piece type i, i = 1, . . ., m, is characterized by a length li, a width wi, a profit...
